An independent foundation with an international remit
The Hanso Foundation supports scientific programs where a sustained investment can make a measurable difference to human welfare. Its work has ranged from education and preventive health to mathematical forecasting and advanced biological research.
The Foundation's headquarters are in Copenhagen. Its programs are conducted through universities, hospitals, research institutes, and field partners. This arrangement allows specialists to retain the methods of their own disciplines while sharing common standards for stewardship and review.
Some grants conclude with a publication. Others establish a method, a cohort, or a body of records that will be valuable only after many years. The Foundation considers both legitimate outcomes.
Institutional continuity
Alvar Hanso's early conviction was that scientific work should be judged by the human consequences it can address. The language and instruments of research have changed; the obligation to think beyond immediate results has not.
